ROCKLAND — The Art Loft, 385 Main St., Suite 9, will show works by resident artist Justin Kinney Friday, July 5, starting with a reception at 5 p.m. The nonprofit community art center is on the lobby level of the Thorndike Building.

Kinney, a self-taught painter based in Rockland, is originally from Weehawken, N.J. He is beginning his third summer in Maine and this will be his second annual exhibition with the Art Loft. “This amazing state has done so much for my artistic endeavors. Falling into the lap of the art capital of Maine was a thing of luck.”

Last year, Kinney’s work aimed to capture emotion. This year, his focus is on the journey from living 5 minutes outside of Manhattan NY to coming up to a much more rural environment in Maine. “I would really like to pay homage to the two locations that have impacted my growth as a human being and as an artist.”

With this show, Kinney hopes to bring all forms of art together into one space. Music, Food, Poetry, and Paintings.

Along with the art exhibit, there will be live music performed by Robin Lane. As well as spoken word artists who will perform. Lilah Poole and Valerie Wells’ performances will begin at 6:45 p.m. The event coincides with the city’s First Friday Art Walk.

Maine Moonlight Dinners will cater the event, which runs through 8 p.m.; purchasing selected prints automatically enters the buyer into a raffle to win a free reservation for two at an upcoming Maine Moonlight Dinner.
